Subject: Rapide in Disney film...
Someone contacted me through my website saying they had discovered the Rapide through this film, he sent me a link to the clip. Funnily enough the Rapide is chasing a TR4, which is the car I sold a few months back to help fund my restoration. The Rapide can be seen from around 0:50 - 1:40 minutes...enjoy!

Sadly I can't play youtube video clips, do tell more! I gather it was the spies car. And we know the car still exists

David,

Sorry for the slow response.

The Rapide is the 'chase' car in pursuit of a TR4. The latter turns off into a boarding school and the Rapide drives on. The TR4 parks and the driver collapses as he gets out of the car but not before delivering an important couple of words to a very young Kurt Russell and chum.

As you probably know, the index number of the car is: CZB 67B. The paint looks to be a mid to light green (although this is difficult to discern). In terms of specific features, the car does not exhibit the 'inboard' 'in grille' lights, does not have wing indicator lights in front of the side vents, and does not have chrome panels behind the headlights. It does have, however, twin rectangular fog lights mounted below the front bumper and a badge bar mounted above. There are twin round fog lights mounted on the bar along with three badges - the central one is almost certainly a Lagonda Club badge. The car is on steel wheels but I can't see which type of rear bumper has been used. I have run the clip several times and am becoming convinced that the standard radio ariel mounting is absent from the front off side wing (although it is very difficult to tell).

Best wishes,

Tim

Hi Tim, thanks for that. Its colour is California Sage (with White Gold interior). How appropriate it was the spies' car! So I wonder if some or all of the extra lights were put on for the film?

Without appearing toooo much of a pedant, could you please clarify the final digit of the registration - is it B Bravo or 8 Eight? My paper records from late 80s would suggest the latter

Regards

David

David,

I've rerun the clip a couple more times and am still unsure. As the car approaches the camera, the image is too indistinct. The car exits frame left foreground (sorry for the technical speak - i used to work in the biz, as you may recall). By this time, the image is much more clear but the angle much more oblique. I think it could well be an '8" (which at least ties in with your records), although it does look mighty like the other 'B' at this juncture.

Regards,

Tim

Thanks Tim, very helpful, I think for the moment the record should stand. Perhaps there is an expert here who can advise on the form of 1960s registrations in Ireland!
