I'm sure Colin you are right saying it would have been an optional extra.

I have the build sheet for my LG45 which is late 1937. it is a printed form filled in by hand. There is a line "sliding roof". Mine is a drophead so obviously it is filled in "no".

My car has several non-standard features (from new) so i guess they'd do pretty much what you wanted within reason.
