Subject: Making a 2ltr stoneguard

Like many details of the 2ltr cars I like the diamond symbol pressed into the leather of the passengers door which also is found in the (optional) stoneguard, which on mine was missing. It was a tempting job to build one, as close to the original as I could. A friend with another 2ltr living nearby gave me his as template. I used ordinary 1/2" copper tubing and pressed the drop shaped profile for the diamond in special vice jaws milled out of aluminum. The outer profile is U-shaped and I first have bent the tubing under heat, then pressed the copper tube flat and then cut it open with a band saw. The diamaond was soft soldered (it is not flat see photo!). The distance cross-bar to radiator on my car seems larger than on the car of my friend so I introduced a little intermediate plate in the mounting. All parts were chromed and I think the result is quite nice.
